Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George

In this fairytale, Galen has survived a horrendous war and has went in search of his only relatives for work. His Uncle gives him a job of working in the palace's splendid garden. There he meets Rose and her 11 sisters, the princesses. There is a mystery about them though, every night no matter if there are guards or if the doors are locked, their brand new dance slippers are found worn out. Even when his daughters fall ill, the phenomenon continues but also prevents them from getting well. King Gregor, their father, is so desperate to figure out this mystery that he calls foreign princes to try to figure it out with the reward of marrying any one of his daughters. When every prince leaves empty handed, Galen decides he wants to try and sets out on an adventure he never expected.
